010. In the midst of my lesson planning I realized that I need to create an infographic to share with my students the first week we get back to school. One of my challenges last year with both freshmen and seniors was that in creating their slideshow presentations, it got cluttered, added too many graphics or lost focus from their topic. My goal this year is to get them to understand that the slideshow presentation is not to be read off but more a visual aid for their audience to have a path to how this presentation is set out as well as the main points the presenter wants you to take away form his/her show. I know I am slightly to blame for that as well, as teachers we tend to overload our slide presentation with tons fo graphics. So in my research I found David Paradi and his method and creative acronym to help students make the most effective slide presentation. Feel free to download and share with your students and faculty. Be well and keep safe.

007. This week and the following week are my last weeks of summer before i head back to school. I live in Florida, South Florida. My public school district has decided to go 100% virtual however as I work in a private Catholic School the word is still a hybrid model with teachers working 4 days a week with students rotating. So I am gonna be giving away free banners, buttons and slide presentations this week and next week. I ask that you not share or sell or re-distribute these items. I made them all on Canva and the elements, graphics are their artwork. I just created design for you using all their artwork. Thank you everyone for your kind comments on tutorials and the blog. All done for FREE, No monies come from Youtube videos or this blog. I don't want to clutter or distract from content shared on this blog. Enjoy and see you on Tuesday! For another banner. If you like them please drop a comment or two. Have a great week! Be good! Stay Safe and Wear a Mask! PLEASE NOTE: The First file is for CANVAS LMS USERS ** The second File is for GOOGLE CLASSROOM USERS **
006. This week has definitely been a busy week of learning. I recently found a LIVE session in Facebook by the CanvasLMS group of educators. On the session was a high school teacher @TeacherWinters who was sharing his amazing and artistic talent for designing CANVAS LMS using Canva to make "Page" headers/banners, buttons/icons for your homepage as well. While he was presenting I saw a cool design he created using Canva's animation feature to make items on banner move like a Gif. That was totally impressive. I teach at a high school, economics, business, leadership and theology. SO I see mostly Seniors and then Freshmen. So I have quite the spectrum of personalities and ages I teach. And as you know to get teens excited about online learning is always hard. So to add another "cool factor" tool to my Teacher Toolbox I am always for that. So I made an animated Bitmoji Virtual classroom for my Welcome to my course Page. See previous blog entry 004. And be sure to see grab the Starter Virtual Classroom for you to practice along with me as you view my tutorial. Once completed I went ahead to create buttons to go along with the HyperDocs learning structure. Voila! My "Pages" look like the picture below. Clean, simple but with hints of color in the ocons to grab my students attention. So my gift to you for following along with me on this battle with CanvasLMS I am giving you the buttons I created for HyperDocs: Engage, Explore, Explain, Apply, Reflect, Extend and Share.
005. Hello Friends! Back again with another animated tutorial on Bitmojis for your virtual classroom. I recently posted in one of my Facebook educator groups an animated gif banner that I made for my welcome back to school class page. I teach high schoolers so I need as much leverage I can get to get them awake and stimulated and back to learning mode. I recently attended a live Canvas LMS training sessions and saw a presentation by @teacherwinters show us how he used Canva to create all his buttons, and Page banners for his class periods. But then he did this cool trick of animating the banner using the "animate" feature in Canva. Whoa! Stop the presses. You can do that in Canva. I am learning something new daily in Canva. This has been my greatest and most utilized tool in my teacher toolbox. So I decided why not use my virtual Bitmoji classroom as my banner for my CanvasLMS Welcome to Mrs Duncan's class. So my steps are: 1) Recreate or make a new google slide and change the page size layout. 2) Use dimension of your chosen or assigned LMS to change page size. 3) Google search for e.g Google classroom header dimensions 2020. In video tutorial I explain why you must type in your search 2020. 4) With your new slide recreate you virtual classroom. 5) Don't add Bitmoji. you can do that in Canva. 6) Download and save the slide as a JPEG file. 7) Watch my tutorial. Feel free to pause the tutorial and continue or repeat. At the end of this blog post I have you given you the google classroom I used in this tutorial that you can used to practice on and if you like use on your google classroom. Opportunities exist for season virtual classroom banners...Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year. Using giphy in Canva creates limitless opportunities to be creative. I do hope you have a chance to head over to youtube and watch this tutorial. Have fun with this starte virtual banner Bitmoji classroom. Always appreciate a "like" or positive feedback on my tutorials! The link for my virtual banner is posted below Once you click on the link. Make a Copy/See preview/then click on TEMPLATE. It should download to your google drive. Until next time
004. Hello Teacher friends! I hope everyone is doing well and we are all in great spirits! Today is "Wonderful Wednesday" and to say thank you for all your kind comments on all my social media posts, videos, tutorials and joke of the day. Here is a template I created to start my morning or afternoon classes with. Place news, reminders, any housekeeping mentions that are important here on this graphic. As we are heading back to school not sure if you will be doing it online or in brick and n mortar, many of our students have been through emotional trauma in some way or another since we went on lock down in March. Due to this I am implementing many SELs (Social emotional Learning) prompts inside all my classes. At the start you will see the emojis on this announcement. And below my email address. I am going to let students know to check in with my privately in chat box or via email how they are doing and if not good...let's talk! If you use Pear Deck many features are available to help you reach your students emotional well being. There is also this website: https://www.mentimeter.com/ which many teachers have recommended using as well. How ever you choose to reach out to your students, whether email, chatbox, pear deck or mentimeter, I do know that this will foster a better classroom community when students know that they are being heard and their needs addressed. Have a great week!. Stay Safe.
